Sonnedix achieves financial close on 36.4MW Kurayoshi solar PV plant in Japan and will begin construction

Sonnedix Power Holdings Ltd. announced that Sonnedix Japan K.K.  has obtained financial close on a JPY 14.2 billion (EUR 113.9 million) project financing with Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited (SMTB) for the 36.4 MW Kurayoshi solar PV plant.

ENGIE signs two corporate renewable PPAs in Latin America

French global energy and services group ENGIE signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) in Mexico to supply renewable energy to steel producer, Gerdau and  a 16-year power purchase agreement with Santiago de Chile airport operator, Nuevo Pudahuel, to supply 100% certified renewable energy, under which ENGIE will supply the airport with 105 GWh per year of green electricity to meet all its power needs.

ENGIE North America secures financing from Goldman Sachs for 75 MW of distributed solar and storage projects in the U.S.

ENGIE North America’s Distributed Solar team today announced this week the closing of an investment from Goldman Sachs’ Alternative Energy Investing Group into a partnership managed by ENGIE to deploy of up to 75 MW of distributed solar and distributed solar plus battery systems across multiple states in the U.S., including California, Nevada, Minnesota, Illinois, Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

Norway’s Equinor acquires 9.7% stake in Scatec Solar for USD 82.4M

Norwegian energy firm Equinor ASA announced that it has acquired 11,020,000 shares in Oslo-based solar project developer Scatec Solar ASA, corresponding to 9.7 per cent of the shares and votes, at a total purchase price of approximately NOK 700 million (USD 82.4 million).

Allianz Capital Partners acquires unsubsidized 46 MW Ourika PV plant in Portugal

German private equity firm Allianz Capital Partners on behalf of Allianz insurance companies announced on October 25 that it has closed the acquisition of the 46 megawatt (MW) Ourika project in Portugal. Iberdrola sells 50MW solar thermal power plant in Spain to Ence Energía

Spanish power utility Iberdrola has agreed to divest its solar thermal power asset located in the town of Puertollano, Ciudad Real (Spain) by selling it to pulp and renewable biomass energy producer Ence Energía, S.L.U. The transaction involves the sale of 90% of the shares in Iberdrola Energía Solar de Puertollano, S.A., the company which owns the 50-megawatt (MW) solar thermal generation unit.

California becomes first U.S. state to mandate solar PV systems on new homes

The California Energy Commission announced yesterday the  adoption of building standards that require solar photovoltaic systems starting in 2020. The building energy efficiency standards, which are the first in the nation to require solar, will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an amount equivalent to taking 115,000 fossil fuel cars off the road.

SunPower to acquire SolarWorld Americas

U.S. based solar energy company SunPower announced on April 18 an agreement to acquire 100 percent of the Hillsboro, Oregon-based SolarWorld Americas, the largest U.S. crystalline-silicon solar manufacturer. SunPower plans to inject fresh capital into the SolarWorld Americas facility and implement leading-edge, high-efficiency P-Series solar panel manufacturing technology. Read more

U.S. Department of Energy Announces $105 Million in New Funding to Advance Solar Technologies

Today, U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry announced this week up to $105.5 million to support America’s continued leadership in energy innovation through solar technology. Under the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO), DOE will fund about 70 projects to advance both solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar thermal power (CSP) technologies, as well as facilitate the secure integration of those technologies into the nation’s electricity grid. Funding will also support efforts that prepare the workforce for the solar industry’s future needs.
