Solar energy currently cheapest and cleanest alternative to fossil fuels, reveals new research

The positive effect of solar energy as a sustainable energy source offsets the negative impact of the production of solar panels. This applies to energy consumption as well as greenhouse gas emissions during the production process, according to a comprehensive study by Atse Louwen and Wilfried van Sark from Utrecht University and colleagues from University of Groningen and Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands. Their research results were published 6 December in the leading journal Nature Communications.

Average Costs for Solar and Wind Electricity Could Fall 59% by 2025, IRENA report says

The average costs for electricity generated by solar and wind technologies could decrease by between 26 and 59 per cent by 2025, according to a report released today by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The report, “The Power to Change: Solar and Wind Cost Reduction Potential to 2025“, finds that with the right regulatory and policy frameworks in place, solar and wind technologies can continue to realise cost reductions to 2025 and beyond.

Fraunhofer ISE’s mini-module achieves new world record efficiency of 43.4 %

After announcing their world record solar cell two years ago, Fraunhofer ISE now reports that they have just achieved a new highest efficiency on the module level.  A mini-module comprised of four-junction solar cells reached a newly confirmed world record of 43.4 percent.

E.ON and Sungevity Launch UK Collaboration

Amazon Web Services teams with Community Energy to build Virginia’s largest solar farm

NREL: U.S. shared solar could represent up to 49% of the distributed PV market in 2020

Analysis from the Energy Department’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) finds that by making shared solar programs available to households and businesses that currently cannot host on-site photovoltaic (PV) systems shared solar could represent 32 to 49 percent of the distributed photovoltaic market in 2020.
