Tongwei Solar starts construction of 30GW solar cell factory in China with an investment of USD 2.82 billion

Chinese conglomerate Tongwei Group Co., Ltd. announced the groundbreaking ceremony  of a high-efficient solar cell production base and supporting facilities with annual capacity of 30 GW to be constructed in Chengdu City, China.

The Tongwei Solar Photovoltaic Industrial Base Project will be implemented by stages. Phase I 7.5 GW Project launched on 25 March is expected to be completed and put into operation within 2021. Subsequent projects will be gradually completed and put into operation in the next  3 to 5 years based on market demands.

With a total investment of about CNY 20 billion (USD 2.82 billion), the Tongwei Solar Photovoltaic Industrial Base Project is expected to increase the estimated output value to about CNY 70 billion and create  over 10,000 new jobs.

The  production base in Chengdu will provide photovoltaic products to China and European markets.
