REC completes one of the largest commercial rooftop solar installations in Singapore

May 25, 2015/in Corporate/by Solar Business Hub

REC, a leading global provider of solar energy solutions with headquarters in Norway, has completed one of the largest rooftop solar installations for an integrated mixed-use development in Singapore at Bugis Junction shopping mall, covering a roof area of about 1,000 square metres.

With part of its electricity generated by solar, Bugis Junction will be able to generate 200,000 kWh of clean energy and mitigate 110 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. This is sufficient to power approximately 50 four-room HDB households every year. Bugis Junction will also be able to save approximately S$30,000 every year for the next 25 years.

Together with the Management Corporation of Bugis Junction, REC identified four locations at Bugis Junction for the panel installations. They were three key areas above the Bugis Junction shopping mall, which is owned by CapitaLand Mall Trust; as well as the rooftop of the office tower, Bugis Junction Towers, which is owned by Keppel REIT. Bugis Junction and Bugis Junction Towers are recipients of the Building and Construction Authority’s Green Mark Platinum award, the highest green building accolade in Singapore.

The 172 kilowatt peak (kWp) rooftop photovoltaic (PV) installation will feature close to 700 of REC Peak Energy Series panels. These made-in-Singapore solar panels serve to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly rooftop systems that work in conjunction with solar panel installations. The panels are supported by a mounting structure system customised to interface with the existing roof profile.

As the exclusive solar panel supplier for Bugis Junction, REC is also the project consultant and manager for all Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services. The EPC scope includes the design, supply, installation and commissioning of REC solar panels as well as associated balance of system equipment prior to grid connection.

REC is a leading global provider of solar energy solutions with plans to expand its production capacity in Singapore to 1.3 GW. To further tap on solar’s potential in Singapore and Asia Pacific, it is offering new financial solutions and selling power directly to businesses. With Bugis Junction as its launch-pad, the market can look forward to a suite of innovative energy solutions such as its EPC capabilities.

Jen Tan, REC’s Vice President for Sales and Marketing in Asia-Pacific said:

“Our customers have come to associate REC’s premium brand with state-of-the-art technology, high quality and reliable performance of our panels that are backed by 25-year warranties. With a vertically integrated and fully automated production facility at our operating headquarters in Singapore, we are going one step further by offering a comprehensive suite of energy solutions in the market. Not only will customers have a convenient, single touch-point in fulfilling all their energy requirements, our competitively priced energy solutions will delight them. Going with solar has never been easier. It will naturally mean going with REC.”

As the leading clean tech hub in Asia, there has been an increasing demand for renewable energy solutions in Singapore where innovative energy solutions are constantly developed to serve the regional markets. Increasingly, many commercial and industrial companies in Asia are embracing solar energy as part of their environmental sustainability vision.
