Dr Azmy Gowaid and his team from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) in Scotland have devised solar tiles that will allow outdoor pedestrianised areas to double up as renewable energy makers. The tile can be used in virtually any outdoor pedestrian walkway exposed to daylight. This includes public squares, pavements, schools and university campuses.
Scottish Water, a public utility headquartered in Scotland, announced today the completed installation of one thousand solar panels at a major water treatment works serving Edinburgh and parts of West Lothian. This is the latest in a series of highly successful projects delivered by Scottish Water Horizons, a subsidiary of the public utility, which supports the development of a sustainable economy in Scotland.

The City of Edinburgh Council announced this week that it is to install what is believed to be the largest community-owned urban renewable energy project ever undertaken in the UK in partnership with the Edinburgh Community Solar Co-operative (ECSC), supported by Energy4All.
UK’s Solar Trade Association (STA), which speaks on behalf of the UK solar energy industry, have launched a new Scotland branch, which is set to become the leading voice for solar in Scotland, advising and developing policy with the Scottish Government and raising awareness of the benefits of solar.
