Spanish EPC contractor TSK Group, in a joint venture with Gransolar Group (GRS) and Umbono Energy Partners, has successfully energized the Greefspan II Solar PV Project in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa.
The 63.2 MW Greefspan II solar PV project has reached the preliminary and final step for the commissioning and it is now ready to start the grid connection tests shortly after uccessful registration.
The solar project will produce approximately 150,000 MWh of clean energy per year and generate enough clean energy to meet the electricity demand of more than 20,000 average South African households.
The construction of the solar plant created nearly 730 local jobs and will avoid avoiding the annual emission of 130,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
This project is owned by African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), a member of Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI), via its IDEAS Fund, Reatile Solar Power (RF) (Pty) Ltd, Phakwe Solar (RF) (Pty) Ltd, AREP (African Rainbow Energy and Power) and the Cicada Community Trust.
