September 27, 2019/in Projects /by Solar Business Hub

WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited (WHAUP), a leading  utilities and power service provider in Thailand, announced that it has signed a contract with SAIC Motor Company – CP Co., Ltd. to install a  solar carpark facility on the car park area of its MG cars manufacturing plant, which will be the largest in Thailand.

With the total roof area of 31,000 square meters, the newly constructed roof structure, which is located in the WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 2  in Rayong, will provide shading for approximately 2,000 vehicles and generate a total electricity capacity of 4.88 MW for the plant’s consumption.

WHAUP is now in the process of installing 20.3 megawatts which should be operated commercially during Q3 2019 to Q1 2020. As of now, about 7.1 megawatts are already in use.

The solar carpark is expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2020.

This project will enable WHAUP to generate an average annual revenue of THB 20 million throughout a 20-year contract period.

Mr. Wisate Chungwatana, Chief Executive Officer of  WHAUP said:

“For this project, WHAUP will assign its subsidiary WHASL to be responsible for the investment and installation of the car park structure and solar system. The project will require an investment budget of approximately THB 175 million. The company’s fully-integrated service encompasses entire project development process including permiting and licensing, design and engineering, construction and installation as well as operation and maintenance throughout the contract period. “
