Solar Village Project to bring solar power to seven villages without electricity in Senegal

October 15, 2016/in Business/by Solar Business Hub

Solar Village Project (SVP), a local non-profit organization whose mission is to install and manage solar power projects in Senegal and India, has announced its second round of projects to be implemented in the Sahel and Littoral regions of Senegal.

SVP’s second round of projects in Senegal will provide electricity to every home in 7 different villages, all of which currently have zero access to electricity.

In the winter of 2016, SVP successfully completed its first major project in Senegal, The Cisse Masse Solar Village Project. Joe Kselman, Solar Village Project Director and founder, recently discussed the group’s first project in Senegal:

“The lessons learned from our initial project in the Cisse Masse Village will undoubtedly guide us during this second round of projects. The Cisse Masse project demonstrated that the same approach we have used in India, distributing individual solar power systems to every home, works in Senegal too. We’re excited to expand our reach for this next round of projects in Senegal, assisting seven villages with a total population of approximately 3,000 people.”

The electricity derived from SVP-installed solar panels provides home lighting and basic electrical systems including mobile phone chargers and radios. Electric light eliminates the need to use physically and environmentally toxic, kerosene-burning lighting solutions that are the current, predominant lighting solution in many Senegalese villages. Currently, villagers often must walk long-distances to charge cell phones, which can provide quick access to life-saving amenities, including medical assistance in emergencies.

SVP is also currently running a crowd funding campaign to raise financial resources for The Sahel and Littoral Solar Village Project.

Literally help make the world a brighter place. #solar https://t.co/2jrojFEtwo
