IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, announced on July 9, that IFC InfraVentures, the global infrastructure project development fund, and Scatec Solar, a Norwegian company specializing in photovoltaic solar systems, have signed documents to develop the $55 million Scatec Segou solar power project in Mali with a local developer, Africa Power 1 SA.
The Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Monday a major solar power venture has got underway in Jordan’s southern governorate of Ma’an with investments totaling $170 million and targeted electricity output of 52.5 megawatts.
Shams Ma’an Power Generation PSC, the company which will carry the project, launched the construction phase of the electricity generation venture which will use photovoltaic cells. The venture is the first of its kind in Jordan and the largest in the region.
The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) has recently embraced a number of pilot projects designed to promote the use of solar energy. Among them is the project titled: “Energy Efficiency and Photovoltaic Systems Pilot applications for Co-operative Societies”, which aims to enhance the energy efficiency of selected Coops as well as to encourage the use of photovoltaics for electricity generation.
