Norwegian integrated independent solar power producer, Scatec Solar, announced grid connection and commercial operation of 65 MW of the 400 MW Benban solar project in Egypt. Scatec Solar now has 130 MW in operation in Egypt and with 400 MW under construction, it is the largest solar developer in Egypt.
MIGA, a member of the World Bank Group, announced on January 9 guarantees of up to $102.6m in support of the construction, operation and maintenance of six solar power plants in Egypt. The power plants will collectively have a combined capacity of up to 250MW, and represent the first set of a total 12 projects approved by MIGA’s board in support of Egypt’s Solar Feed in Tariff (FiT) program.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) reported on Monday that it has earmarked up to US$ 500 million for 2016 to support Egypt’s new solar energy programme, which aims to construct up to 2,000 MW of utility-scale solar generating capacity as part of an ambitious target to secure 20 per cent of electricity from renewable sources.
