DTEK launches 240 MW Pokrovska solar plant, Europe’s second largest by installed capacity
Ukraine’s energy holding company DТЕК announced it has launched the 240 MW Pokrovska solar power plant in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, which is the second largest in Europe by installed capacity.
The Pokrovska solar power plant, located in the Nikopol district on the territory of a former mining quarry (437 hectares), is a project implemented by Ukrainian companies and specialists. 16 enterprises took part in the construction and supplied services and products with a total contract value of 48 million Euros.
It took only 8 months from the start of the construction works to the commissioning of the facility, which began generating green electricity in October 2019.
The solar power plant consists of 840 thousand solar panels supplied by Risen (China), one of the TOP-3 leading solar panel manufacturers according to Bloomberg market data. It will generate annually 400 mln kWh of green electricity, which is enough to supply 200 thousand private households. The solar plat will help reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 420 thousand tons per year, which is comparable to the emissions generated by more than 200 thousand cars.
Maksim Timchenko, DTEK CEO said:
“For DTEK, the Pokrovska SPP is a quality milestone and a proof of our growing expertise. With the experience we gained with our previous projects we have built a professional team, procured and installed electrical equipment from the best world manufacturers, and ensured the successful integration of the solar power plant into the country’s energy system. This is a 100% national project built by Ukrainians for Ukrainians. The Pokrovska SPP is the third project of the company in solar energy with a total investment of EUR 193 mln. DTEK once again confirmed the status of the largest national investor in clean and safe renewable energy generation.”
