U.S. based solar company SunPower announced in October that it had completed in under six months the installation of a 8.79 megawatt solar system spanning across four parking garages at Toyota Motor North America‘s new 100-acre headquarters in Plano, Texas. SunPower was also responsible for the original design of the solar system.
8point3 Energy Partners LP, a limited partnership formed by First Solar and SunPower Corporation to own and operate a portfolio of selected solar energy generation assets, announced last week that it has commenced an initial public offering (IPO) of Class A shares representing limited partner interests in 8point3 Energy Partners.
Stanford University has entered into an agreement with SunPower to build a 68-megawatt peak solar plant on approximately 300 acres in California. The solar farm, which will be called the Stanford Solar Generating Station, will be composed of more than 150,000 high-efficiency SunPower solar panels and is expected to provide half of all campus electricity.
A decision by the two largest U.S. solar manufacturers to form a joint venture to own and operate their power plants offers the companies more long-term cash and a low-risk opportunity for investors.
